Carrie has had experience as a barn manager since 1978. She began with Swinging M Stables in November of 2009. Prior to that, she was barn manager at another local boarding facility, a Standardbred racing barn (where she worked and trained the race horses), a dude ranch and a Girl Scout camp barn.
In all her positions, Carrie has been responsible for overseeing the health and safety of the horses, feeding programs, stall cleaning, and everything else necessary to keep a barn running smoothly. Carrie is knowledgeable and has a wonderful way with both horses and people!! We invite you to come meet her. You will love her!
As the barn manager at Swinging M, Carrie Hazelwood is responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance of the horses boarded there. She is highly skilled in all aspects of horsemanship. She has a solid working knowledge of basic medical treatments, equine nutritional needs, and equine behavioral management. I have never been at a stable where the horse's overall needs have been so well managed. She is always there to lend a helping hand but never over states her opinion; this quality is a rarity in the horse business.

I have known Carrie since 2009 as stable manager for Swinging M Stables. During this time I have developed an ever growing appreciation for the high quality care that she gives to my horse, and all the horses at the farm.
Carrie is my eyes, ears and hands on when I'm not there. She notices his physical appearance, his movement, his attitude, and behavior. She has caught minute changes that has enabled us to ward off bigger problems. She has immense knowledge of the equine athlete and can offer advice on nutrition, conditioning or leg bandaging. Carrie problem solves easily and is a great sounding board. She is very timely, and follows a strict routine with the horses. My horse is quirky, and she manages this easily and understands his behavior. She has an uncanny ability to read radar (even when the "weathermen" are wrong), and the horses are always in or outside appropriately for weather conditions.
The best thing about Carrie, is that she somehow manages to treat every horse as if it were her own; looking out for their every need, physical, nutritional, and even mental wellbeing.

I have been a boarder at Swinging M Stables since 2012. Carrie Hazelwood is a wonderful barn manager. I appreciate knowing that someone with her knowledge is there to keep an eye out for my horse. If I have a question or concern about the welfare of my horse she is always willing to talk to me. Carrie is also very friendly! I love when I get a chance to sit and talk with her and hear about her past experiences. I can really tell that she has a love and passion for horses!

Swinging M Stables gives the ultimate care for horses and has a family atmosphere! Each horse boarded at SMS receives personalized care under the leadership of owner Landi Moore and the management of Carrie Underwood. Through specific supplements for stalled horses, assistance with farrier services for stalled horses, and daily management of our horse's health, Landi and Carrie have had the needs of our beloved animal first and foremost in their thoughts and actions. Carrie notices even the little things, such as a runny nose or slight limp and is quick to communicate observations to owners. Rainy, wet spring weather would keep most horses in their stalls. But even when pasture conditions do not permit regular turnout, Carrie and her staff work to be sure horses get a couple of hours' turnout in the "sacrifice" lots.
Under Landi's leadership the SMS facility is clean and organized. The newest changes of the footing in the indoor arena and medical paddocks for horses on limited turnout are few of the many improvements that reflect Landi's visions for making SMS a facility for all levels of horse owners and riders.
Fellow boarders at SMS are friendly, social and supportive...like a family! Frequently, impromptu rides among boarders, conversations about equine life and many laughs occur. Landi, Carrie, staff and fellow boarders work together as a team to learn about and care for the horses at SMS. Our horse is happy, safe, well cared for, and LOVED at SMS.

Caroline was instrumental in helping me achieve certification as a PATH International certified instructor. I had ridden my entire childhood but had taken quite a long break before riding again. Always positive and focused, she helped me find the skill, finesse and confidence I needed to pass my exams and be able to teach students with disabilities to ride. As we worked through this process my 20+ year old quarter horse, Ted, and I developed a deeper bond, a better working relationship and he picked up skills I wasn't sure he had.
I've seen her work with very skilled and beginning riders, finding ways to communicate and teach to the individual she is working with. I would recommend Caroline for any age, any proficiency rider.~ Rachel Royston, PATH certified instructor at Agape
I'm sixteen, and I've been taking lessons on and off with Caroline since I was ten years old. I received my very first horse on Christmas morning about three years ago, and the summer after I started taking lessons weekly with Caroline and have consistently done so ever since. I own a very temperamental Saddlebred Arabian that had horrible habits and no ground manners what so ever when I first purchased him. However, after three years of hard work with Caroline you would never have guessed that. From first hand experience, I can honestly say that Caroline is extremely educated in what she does and has an obvious passion for it. From the minute you step into the ring, until you're cooling your horse down her full focus and attention is on you and she's doing everything she can to help you be the best rider that you can be.
Whatever your riding skills are, Caroline works to help you perfect them. She has a very unique style of teaching that I have found to be extremely beneficial for myself and my horse. She's very accommodating of your needs, and though you are sometimes pushed out of your comfort zone, you are never forced. I'm extremely blessed to have her as a trainer, and I would definitely recommend her to anyone who is interested in a rich and fulfilling riding experience.

Caroline Johnson is my go-to horse professional. She is someone whose opinions, ideas and experience I trust implicitly. She knows how to get you and your horse from point A to point B and gives you the confidence to get you there. Without Caroline, I would have never gotten to this level with my horse that I had only dreamed about, and now I have aspirations for more! She never gave up on me and my unconventional mount, nor did she ever once even say he was not perfect for the job. She just jumped in and started patching our holes and I appreciate someone who will never let breed or politics stand in the way.
Something about Caroline that rings through is that she truly cares for her clients and most importantly, their horses. She shares in their success and works through their stumbling blocks- no matter how long it takes. She isn't someone who rushes through anything and she wants small details to be just right before advancing. Caroline is extremely skilled at just barely pushing one out of their comfort zone for those "eureka!" moments- she is steadfast and hard hitting and her confidence in you is enough to tackle the next obstacle- which leads to confidence in yourself. She builds riding partnerships from the ground up and it shows in her solid results.
I am extremely lucky to have such an amazing trainer guiding me through- without Caroline Johnson, I have no doubt my new-found successes would have never happened, and I thank her full-heartedly for that.
