Carrie has had experience as a barn manager since 1978. She began with Swinging M Stables in November of 2009. Prior to that, she was barn manager at another local boarding facility, a Standardbred racing barn (where she worked and trained the race horses), a dude ranch and a Girl Scout camp barn.
In all her positions, Carrie has been responsible for overseeing the health and safety of the horses, feeding programs, stall cleaning, and everything else necessary to keep a barn running smoothly. Carrie is knowledgeable and has a wonderful way with both horses and people!! We invite you to come meet her. You will love her!
As the barn manager at Swinging M, Carrie Hazelwood is responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance of the horses boarded there. She is highly skilled in all aspects of horsemanship. She has a solid working knowledge of basic medical treatments, equine nutritional needs, and equine behavioral management. I have never been at a stable where the horse's overall needs have been so well managed. She is always there to lend a helping hand but never over states her opinion; this quality is a rarity in the horse business.

I have known Carrie since 2009 as stable manager for Swinging M Stables. During this time I have developed an ever growing appreciation for the high quality care that she gives to my horse, and all the horses at the farm.
Carrie is my eyes, ears and hands on when I'm not there. She notices his physical appearance, his movement, his attitude, and behavior. She has caught minute changes that has enabled us to ward off bigger problems. She has immense knowledge of the equine athlete and can offer advice on nutrition, conditioning or leg bandaging. Carrie problem solves easily and is a great sounding board. She is very timely, and follows a strict routine with the horses. My horse is quirky, and she manages this easily and understands his behavior. She has an uncanny ability to read radar (even when the "weathermen" are wrong), and the horses are always in or outside appropriately for weather conditions.
The best thing about Carrie, is that she somehow manages to treat every horse as if it were her own; looking out for their every need, physical, nutritional, and even mental wellbeing.

I have been a boarder at Swinging M Stables since 2012. Carrie Hazelwood is a wonderful barn manager. I appreciate knowing that someone with her knowledge is there to keep an eye out for my horse. If I have a question or concern about the welfare of my horse she is always willing to talk to me. Carrie is also very friendly! I love when I get a chance to sit and talk with her and hear about her past experiences. I can really tell that she has a love and passion for horses!

Swinging M Stables gives the ultimate care for horses and has a family atmosphere! Each horse boarded at SMS receives personalized care under the leadership of owner Landi Moore and the management of Carrie Underwood. Through specific supplements for stalled horses, assistance with farrier services for stalled horses, and daily management of our horse's health, Landi and Carrie have had the needs of our beloved animal first and foremost in their thoughts and actions. Carrie notices even the little things, such as a runny nose or slight limp and is quick to communicate observations to owners. Rainy, wet spring weather would keep most horses in their stalls. But even when pasture conditions do not permit regular turnout, Carrie and her staff work to be sure horses get a couple of hours' turnout in the "sacrifice" lots.
Under Landi's leadership the SMS facility is clean and organized. The newest changes of the footing in the indoor arena and medical paddocks for horses on limited turnout are few of the many improvements that reflect Landi's visions for making SMS a facility for all levels of horse owners and riders.
Fellow boarders at SMS are friendly, social and supportive...like a family! Frequently, impromptu rides among boarders, conversations about equine life and many laughs occur. Landi, Carrie, staff and fellow boarders work together as a team to learn about and care for the horses at SMS. Our horse is happy, safe, well cared for, and LOVED at SMS.

Kat became our Equine Manager May 31, 2022. Prior to coming to Swinging M, she was a manger, trainer, instructor in Carmel, Indiana for a couple of years and after that a training assistant for Katrin Silva in Santa Fe, New Mexico (who works with all breeds and rides both Western and English).
Kat started riding at age 3. She has ridden hunter/jumper, English, Western, and both Western dressage and English dressage.
Kat's greatest training influence has been Warwick Schiller. Kat is most passionate about the ground
work/horsemanship basics, especially since she believes those foundational elements are often overlooked.
She believes that when a horse is giving an owner or handler a hard time, it is not that the horse wants to
resist, but rather the horse is having a hard time and is doing what he thinks necessary to survive. Kat's view is
that it is our job as horsemen to better communicate and to help the horse better understand what we are
asking. As part of that process, she emphasizes attunement to the horse, making sure they feel seen and
heard. With that being said, Kat believes that lack of boundaries is not kindness, it is neglect.
Kat can teach the "fancy" stuff but her passion is basic horsemanship and helping a rider understand their
horse. Her dream is to rehab horses who are troubled or have been abused.
Kat is also an advanced student in the Masterson Method modality of equine bodywork.
Kat is available for lessons to our boarders and to train our boarders' horses. She can also be contacted
regarding training outside horses.
What Kat's references say:

She is very quiet, calm, and organized. She is a positive individual. I have always enjoyed my interaction with Kat.
She is very pleasant. This lady also sold Kat her horse, Lucky. This is what she said: Lucky was troubled when Kat got him.
